In these days I.T. has revolutionized the concept of libraries. Each and every library is by step-by-step going to be digitized. A digital library comprises digital collections, services and infrastructure to support lifelong learning, research, scholarly communication and preservation and conservation. It is a process of democratization of information. This article will describe the factors for which traditional libraries are going to be digitized, the definition, need, advantages and disadvantages of digital libraries. What is Requirement for building a digital library? Etc. The emphasis is also put to describe the role of librarian in the new environment.
