An Action Research of Children Character Education on Picture Book Teaching

This study is through teaching on respect, responsibility and caring aspect to explore the effects of picture books education on children’s character development. Regarding to this action research, it took 12 weeks to observe the behavior of the 13 5-year-old children from the kindergarten classes of XX Elementary School of Kaohsiung County .The teacher used picture book on, character course teaching and experience activity as a way to learn if there will be difference on children’s performance than they did. Moreover, this essay itself is also a result from the researcher’s real-life experience of teaching, which is included conversation, journal, observe, a list of checklist in character and some related data so on. The result is as follows:
1. Indeed, the picture books is attractive and effective to children and also made children learn the concrete concept of character easily and practice in their life.
2. The children have good performance in respect, responsibility and caring
aspect in their household life and school life.
3. The lengthening result from the research, we found respect and caring aspect
have obvious effect on household life; and respect, responsibility and caring aspect do on school life.
4. Analyzing the results of the survey for character education on picture book, the process itself is popular by most of children.
Finally, the researcher offers the concrete suggestion about teaching and student counseling for teacher, education system, parents of children and future researchers.
