The Study on Masturbation of Mentally Retarded Stuednts in Senior High Vocational Schools

The study explores students with mental retardation in senior-high vocational schools, focuses on their knowledge, attitude and behavior towards masturbation; the correlation between each two parameter is also analyzed.
The data of this study was mainly based on questionnaire survey, and in-depth interview as minor method. Selecting criteria included 98 students in 9 schools, totally obtained 95 valid questionnaires, and 5 volunteer students were interviewed just to evidence questionnaire deficiency. According to the findings of this study, the results are as follows:
1. Generally speaking, there are 44.21% students have ever masturbated. 54.23% are male, 27.78 % are female. Almost 50.00% of these masturbated students did the first time in vocational schools, followed by junior high school (38.10 %).
2. The degree of students’ knowledge of masturbation is low. Attitude to masturbation are negative.
3. In the course of masturbation, 47.62% had ever used pornography. About the ways of masturbation, 64.29 % students used their hands to touch their genital, followed by is friction in bed (26.19%), and the use of sex toys to stimulate their genitals (11.90 %).
4. There were positive correlations between masturbation knowledge and masturbation attitude.
Based on the findings, it can be a reference for special education teachers and parents in planning sex education and study, and also provide direction for future research proposals.
